Reporting to the General Manager - Commercial & Tendering, as the Senior Estimator you will be responsible for reviewing tender documents issued by contract clients and deriving a thorough understanding of clients requirements and determining the requirements of tender specifications. The Senior Estimator will prepare cost estimates and technical proposals for tender submissions and ensure the timely submission of tenders and as required participate in contract negations with Senior Management.
- Review and assess tenders ensuring all tender documents are received and correct;
- Review tender documents assessing scope, risks involved, tender complexity, etc and provide feedback to the Commercial & Tendering Manager;
- Prepare cost estimates and technical proposals for tender submissions in accordance with the scope of appropriate drawings, specifications, quantities and cost data;
- Compile relevant tender information into benchmark & estimate prices;
- Review tender submissions to ensure quality, complete submissions;
in-conjunction with Redpath senior management, participate in contract negations; - Make tender amendments where applicable utilising client feedback on submitted tenders;
- Liaise with clients on an ongoing basis to determine progress of the tender;
conduct site inspections for tender understanding, analysis of conditions, assessment of risk and identification of activity that may or may not be shown in the tender documents; - Maintain sound and cooperative working relationship with existing clients;
actively promote the organisation & services offered by Redpath within the industry; - Continually seek and identify new or alternative business opportunities or initiatives which may impact on the overall competitiveness, profitability and growth of Redpath;
- Participate in business development strategy initiatives;
- Co-ordinate and conduct “handover” meeting with the project team, providing detailed briefing of the tender requirements;
- As necessary provide support and respond to tender queries made by project team personnel;
- Identify new and existing clients that can assist in the proactive promotion of Redpath providing feedback to Redpath senior management;
- Contribute to the organisation's continued activities into technical development, strive for continuous improvement and innovative solutions;
- Relevant tertiary qualification such as Engineering (Mining, Civil or Mechanical);
- Minimum 5 years estimating or site-based experience;
- Must be open-minded, willing to learn new things and work with different processes and procedures;
- Extensive experience in the co-ordination, planning, administration and management of the estimation process and bid submission to successful outcomes;
- Advanced understanding of the development of estimation methodologies, identification of major cost components, performing bid evaluations, cost factor analysis and risk analysis;
- High level negotiation and analytical skills;
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with figures;
- Sound working knowledge of project management principles;
